Get Involved

Join us in making a difference for lost and vulnerable pets in our community. At TRAPS, we believe that trapping should be a last resort. Our mission is to educate, support, and empower the public to help reduce the burden on municipal shelters, prevent escapes and reunite lost pets with their families. There are two ways you can help.

TRAPS Members
Members are individuals who plan to regularly contribute their time and expertise to support our mission. While they won’t be expected to assist with every case, they do play a consistent role in our operations. Members are included in day-to-day communications and decision-making, and may help with case planning, field support, community outreach, and education. Their ongoing involvement helps drive the heart of our organization.

TRAPS Volunteers
Volunteers assist on a more flexible, one-time basis. They are contacted when there’s a specific need or case in their zip code and can choose to help based on availability. Tasks may include things like flyer distribution, monitoring feeding stations, or running errands. While less involved in planning or operations, volunteers provide crucial support that makes recovery efforts possible.

Whichever role you choose, you’ll play a vital role in everything from outreach and education to on-the-ground support during active searches and recovery efforts. Whether you’re a seasoned rescuer or just getting started, there’s a place for you on our team.

01

Case investigation

As part of the investigation process, interviews are conducted with owners of lost pets to gather detailed information about the animal and the circumstances surrounding the disappearance.

Additionally, members of the public requesting assistance with a loose or stray animal are interviewed to help assess whether the animal is truly stray, lost, or potentially owned and at-large, and guides the decision on whether trapping is appropriate or necessary.

02

Foster home prep and support

Foster Home Prep includes activities like coordinating or assisting with the pickup and delivery of essential supplies such as crates, food, medications, and other necessities.

Foster Support may include the initial foster screening process to match animals with suitable homes, supporting the transition of animals from the street into a foster home, providing guidance on the adjustment period, offering tips and resources for decompression, behavior, and routine building, and serving as a friendly point of contact for new fosters, especially during the first critical weeks.

Case support

Volunteers providing case support help with the on-the-ground and behind-the-scenes efforts to reunite lost pets with their families or assist in active cases. Responsibilities may include hanging and removing flyers in designated areas to raise awareness about lost or found pets, refilling and maintaining feeding stations, communicating and coordinating with fellow volunteers to share updates and divide tasks, requesting permission from landowners to access property, place feeding stations, or set up equipment, or monitoring local social media pages and lost/found pet groups for sightings, updates, or relevant leads.

04

Events and Classes

In this role you'll help bring community outreach and education efforts to life by assisting with public events, workshops, and classes by helping set up and break down tables, tents, signage, and distribute materials, greeting attendees and providing information about our mission, services, and volunteer opportunities, and potentially capturing photos or videos for social media and follow-up content.
