About the Course

Stay Secure: A Comprehensive Safety Course for Dog Sitters and Walkers is designed to give pet care professionals the tools and confidence they need to keep dogs safe and prevent escapes. This course combines practical skills, real-life case insights, and field-tested tools to help sitters and walkers prevent accidents, respond effectively in emergencies, and reduce risk for the pets entrusted to them.

You’ll learn how to read canine body language, choose and use the right safety equipment, secure entry and exit points, and handle even the most skittish or escape-prone pets. Hands-on demonstrations and scenario-based practice will help reinforce key concepts.

Successful completion includes a one-year certification and the option to be listed on the TRAPS (Trapping, Rescuing, Advocating, and Providing Support) website as a trusted sitter or walker—a resource actively used by pet parents in our community. As an added assurance, if a certified sitter follows all of the safety protocols taught in this course and a pet in their care still escapes, TRAPS will take the case and assist with recovery efforts.
